Water

The Miño River, a monomictic siliceous waterbody typical of principal network rivers. The bed comprises silts and stones. The area is part of the Castrelo Reservoir. Mean annual discharge is 83.4 cubic metres per second. Environmental flow rates vary seasonally from 38.445 m³/s (July-September) to 74.449 m³/s (January-March). The three-year return period discharge is 3139.2 m³/s.

Location

The bathing area is located at the Club Náutico de Castrelo do Miño, approximately 300 metres from Barral in Castrelo de Miño, Ourense Province. Access is from the OU-402 road (Orense-Cortegada). Parking is available.

Parking available. 6 toilets. 20 showers. 3 lifeguard notice boards. Bar and snack facilities. 5 fountains. Picnic areas. Waste bins. Waste containers. Municipal swimming pools. Life-saving floats positioned along the bathing area. Lifeguard and first aid coverage from 10:00 to 21:00 hours provided by 2 civil protection personnel and 2 municipal pool workers. Boat dock.

Season

June 1 to September 30.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Real Decreto 1341/2007. Monitoring data from 2011-2015 shows measurements of intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli concentrations. The underlying water mass (Castrelo Reservoir) has a status of good or better. Multiple point source pollution discharges from municipal wastewater treatment and sanitation systems have been identified throughout the upstream catchment.

Risks

Multiple point source discharges from sanitation and sewage systems are identified upstream in the catchment. Agricultural and urban land use is present in the influence area.
