La Loteta is an artificial reservoir located in Aragón, Spain, used for water activities including kitesurfing. The bathing area comprises two designated zones: one in Boquiñeni (Zsurf Spot Centro) and one in Luceni (Spot Sur Kitesurf). The reservoir has a surface area of 1,086.7 hectares and a volume of 100 cubic hectolitres, with a maximum depth of 34 metres and average depth of 10 metres.

Water

Artificial reservoir (embalse) on the Carrizal stream. Surface area: 1,086.7 hectares. Volume: 100 cubic hectolitres. Maximum depth: 34 metres. Average depth: 10 metres. Maximum water level elevation: 288 metres. Hydraulic residence time: 42.7 months. The reservoir bed consists of gravel, sand, and silt. Substrate includes gypsum, clays, and saline levels at depth.

Location

The reservoir is located in the provinces of Zaragoza, Aragón, Spain, accessible from Zaragoza via the N-232 towards Logroño until the Luceni exit (ZP-2133). Parking is available at both bathing zones. Access to Luceni zone is via a dirt road approximately 3 kilometres from the Canal Imperial de Aragón. Access to Boquiñeni zone is via a dirt road paralleling the reservoir shore near the water intake tower.

Facilities

Boquiñeni zone: parking, informational signs, waste bins, daily waste collection, domestic animal access permitted. Luceni zone: parking, informational signs, waste bins, picnic areas, toilets, daily waste collection, domestic animal access permitted. Neither zone has lifeguards, showers, recreation areas, fountains, piers, or swimming pools. Informational signage addresses environmental risks rather than bathing water quality.

Season

Normally July and August. The health authority establishes the bathing calendar each season.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. The water body is classified as having moderate ecological potential under the Water Framework Directive (2016-2021 River Basin Management Plan). No registered discharges or livestock installations exist within the reservoir catchment.

Risks

Pumping station with associated hazards marked. American river crayfish and zebra mussels present in the water. Occasional high-powered wind conditions suitable for kitesurfing but potentially hazardous for swimming.
