La Toba is a continental bathing area located in a reservoir on the Júcar River in the municipality of Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The reservoir is situated at an altitude of 1,155 meters and is surrounded by pinaceae forests and shrubland. The bathing area is near the dam structure and features a beach with medium to coarse sand, pebbles, and blocks. The water body is highly modified and used primarily for hydroelectric power generation by Unión Fenosa.

Water

Reservoir on the Júcar River with a surface area of 158 hectares and volume of 9.7 cubic hectometers. Maximum water level: 1,156.35 meters. The riverbed consists of clay, silt, and aquatic plants. The catchment area is 374.72 square kilometers with an average slope of 13.24 percent.

Location

Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. Access from Cuenca via the CM-2105 road to La Toba, then following signs towards the La Toba reservoir. Parking is not available.

Facilities

No parking, lifeguard posts, information signs, bars, picnic areas, waste bins, toilets, showers, recreational areas, fountains, or water sports facilities are available.

Water quality classification available at http://nayadeciudadano.sanidad.gob.es/. Monitoring station: CEMAS JU05880001. Identified pollution sources include urban discharges from the Júcar catchment at 15.5 kilometers upstream and bather self-contamination. Livestock in the influence area includes 180 cattle, 693 sheep, 123 goats, 23 pigs, and 54 horses. Short-duration contamination risks include accidental or illegal discharges, dead animals, organic waste, and sediment resuspension.
