Sant Antoni Reservoir in Talarn is a continental bathing area located in the Noguera Pallaresa river basin in the province of Lleida, Catalonia, Spain. The bathing zone is situated at 502 meters altitude within an artificial reservoir covering 927 hectares with a maximum depth of 81 meters. The area features sandy and rocky substrates with surrounding coniferous forest, scrubland, and dry cultivated lands. The reservoir serves multiple purposes including hydroelectric power generation, irrigation, fishing, bathing, and navigation.

Water

Artificial reservoir (embalse) in the Noguera Pallaresa river. Surface area: 927 hectares. Maximum depth: 81 meters. Average depth: 22 meters. Volume: 226.7 cubic hectometers. Maximum normal water level: 500.95 meters. Hydraulic residence time: 2.31 months. Substrate composed of medium and coarse sands, gravel, and blocks. Bedrock of sandstone and conglomerate deposits.

Location

Talarn, Lleida province, Catalonia. Access from Tremp via the C-13 road towards La Pobla de Segur; turn right after kilometer 91 following camping signs. Free parking available near the bathing zone entrance, approximately 70 meters walk to the water.

Season

Normally July and August. Autonomous communities establish bathing calendar annually.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as good or better (2016-2021 classification). Monitoring conducted 2012-2018 under Real Decreto 1341/2007. Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci measured 2015-2018. Significant pollution pressure from camping discharge (480 meters away, 250 equivalent inhabitants) and self-contamination from bathers. Non-significant pressure from municipal discharges and diffuse sources including livestock (pork farming units: 21,696.77, cattle: 395.2, sheep: 1,017.9 in the influence zone).

Short-duration contamination risk from camping wastewater discharge (significant). Livestock farming diffuse sources (cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, horses) across the influence zone. Self-contamination from bathers identified.
