Río Segre is a humid limestone mountain river in Camarasa, Lleida, Catalonia. The bathing zone is located at a Roman bridge with a single, sinuous riverbed composed of pebbles and gravels. The area is well-preserved within a Special Area of Conservation (LIC ES5130014 Aiguabarreig Segre-Noguera Pallaresa). The riverbed contains rounded stones and gravel, with vegetation including poplars, ashes, alders, willows and plane trees.

Mountain river (Río Segre). Single, sinuous channel with central and marginal bars of pebbles and gravels. Environmental flow: 6.0 m³/s. Four-year return period flow: 168.534 m³/s. Altitude: 247 meters.

Location

Camarasa, Lleida, Catalonia. From Balaguer, take road C-13 to Camarasa, pass through the town heading north, and turn right approximately 150 meters beyond. Take the asphalt track past the bar to reach the bathing zone. A roundabout parking area is available at the end of the track.

Facilities

Parking available. Bar/chiringuito. Toilets. Recreational zone. Waste collection (daily). Information signs. Waste containers. Domestic animals allowed with restrictions. Estimated bathers: >200 on weekends, 50-100 on weekdays. No lifeguards, showers, or fountains.

Season

Normally July and August. Regional authorities establish the annual bathing season calendar.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2018-2019). Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci measured within good quality standards according to Royal Decree 1341/2007. Possible episodes of contamination affecting bather health would occur with flows below 0.51 m³/s.

Risks

Low-flow episodes (below 0.51 m³/s) may present health risks from intestinal enterococci. Self-contamination from bathers identified as a significant short-term pressure. Short-term contamination risks from nearby livestock (cattle, pigs, sheep) and rural wastewater discharges. Medieval bridge presents jump/diving hazard.
