The Burtoncourt pond bathing area is an artificial pond created in the 1970s as part of a leisure facility development by the municipality. It covers approximately 2.5 hectares and is situated in a topographic depression. The bathing zone is located on the northern side of the pond with a sandy-gravelly beach measuring 35 by 8 metres, accommodating approximately 150 people. The maximum depth of the bathing zone is 1.3 metres with a regular slope of approximately 10%. The pond is fed by surface drainage and an underground watercourse carrying overflow from the municipal water supply sources.

Water

Artificial pond on the Lintringerbach stream. Surface area approximately 2.5 hectares. Maximum depth estimated between 5 and 7 metres. The bathing zone has a maximum depth of 1.3 metres and extends approximately 15 metres from the beach face over a width of 35 metres. Water shows no apparent movement as it is a pond. The pond receives water from surface drainage, an underground watercourse conveying overflow from municipal water supply sources, and rainfall from the caravan zone. Overflow is directed back to the Lintringerbach stream.

Location

Located in Burtoncourt, Moselle department, France. The pond sits upstream of Burtoncourt town, approximately 700 metres east of the Camping de la Croix du Bois Sacker. The water level is at approximately 250 metres altitude. The surrounding area consists of forests (Forêt Domaniale De Villers to the west and north, Forêt Domaniale de Befey to the south, Bois Sacker in immediate vicinity) and fields to the east.

Facilities

Beach rescue post and sanitary facilities located in immediate proximity to the bathing beach. Play areas present. The bathing zone is delimited by panels.

Water Quality

The report establishes a bathing profile under European Directive 2006/7/CE. The document identifies the need to achieve water quality of at least sufficient standard by 2015.
