Baubigny is a bathing beach located on the north-west coast of the Cotentin peninsula in Normandy, France. It lies between Cap du Rozel to the north and Cap de Carteret to the south, bordered by a protected dune system. The beach extends over 500 meters on either side of the main access point. The shoreline comprises sand and a shingle bank in the upper foreshore, with a gently sloping profile.

Water

Coastal marine bathing water on the north-west coast of the Cotentin. The designated bathing zone has shallow depth (petit fond). Tidal currents and maritime conditions are present in the area.

Location

Commune of Baubigny, Manche department (50), Basse-Normandie region. The beach is situated between the communes of Surtainville and Moitiers d'Allonne. Parking available with approximately 20 unmarked spaces. No designated boat ramp.

Facilities

No sanitary facilities. No lifeguard post. Beach cleaning is conducted manually by the Côte des Isles Communauté de Communes with variable frequency. Parking available.

Season

15 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

The document establishes a vulnerability profile for bathing water quality under Directive 2006/7/CE. Water quality is monitored for faecal contamination indicators. Historical classifications under Directive 76/160/CEE and simulated classifications under Directive 2006/7/CE are documented. Target water quality classification is sufficient quality by 2015.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include coastal discharges, domestic wastewater from collective and non-collective sanitation systems, stormwater runoff, agricultural activities, artisanal and industrial activities, harbour and mooring zones, and camping or caravan areas.
