The Surtainville Face RD66 beach is located on the northwest coast of Cotentin, approximately 1 km south of Cap du Rozel in Manche department, Basse-Normandie region. The bathing zone constitutes the northern part of Surtainville beach and extends over 500 metres on either side of the main access point. The beach has a gentle slope with a sandy foreshore and is subject to supervised swimming during the bathing season.

Coastal bathing zone in the English Channel (Manche). Characterized by small depth ('petit fond'). Beach extends over 500 metres with gentle slope and sandy foreshore.

Location

Surtainville, Manche (50), Basse-Normandie region. Located 1 km south of Cap du Rozel. Parking available with 20-30 spaces with non-delimited parking spots. Main access point provides entry to the beach.

Facilities

1 WC and 1 shower connected to public sewerage network. Lifeguard post with lookout tower on dunes. Supervised swimming (Maîtres Nageurs Sauveteurs). Beach cleaning performed manually twice weekly during July–August. Manual beach maintenance by Communauté de Communes des Pieux.

Season

15 June to 15 September. Horse access prohibited 11:30–19:00 during 15 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classified under Directive 2006/7/CE with monitoring of faecal indicator germs. Historical quality assessments conducted; bathing zone subject to closure notifications. Water quality aimed to reach 'sufficient' standard by 2015.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified including coastal discharges, domestic wastewater, rainfall runoff, agricultural activities, and maritime activities. Shellfish farming zone present in area. Foot harvesting activities noted. Historical water quality variations requiring management measures.
