Saint-Germain-sur-Ay is a bathing beach located in the Manche department of France, facing the RD 306 road. The beach is situated near the Lessay harbour (Havre de Lessay). This bathing zone is subject to official water quality monitoring and vulnerability assessment under European bathing water directives.

Coastal bathing water in the English Channel. The zone is influenced by tidal currents and the discharge of several rivers including the Ay, Dun, Ouve, and Brosse.

Saint-Germain-sur-Ay, Manche, France. The bathing beach is located facing the RD 306 road, near the Lessay harbour.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring is carried out under Directive 2006/7/CE. Historical classification data exists under the previous Directive 76/160/CEE. Fecal indicator germs are monitored. The beach has a history of closure periods. Quality is influenced by domestic wastewater, stormwater discharges, agricultural activities, and coastal discharges.

Potential pollution sources identified include domestic wastewater from collective and non-collective sewage systems, stormwater discharges, agricultural activities, artisanal and industrial activities, port and mooring zones, camping facilities, and resuspension of sediments in Lessay harbour.
