Fonte do Cortiço is a coastal bathing water on the moderately exposed mesotidal Atlantic coast with a tidal regime of 3.5 m. The sandy beach is 70 to 80 m wide. During the bathing season, the site experiences average rainfall of 7.9 mm, average air temperature of 21.3°C, prevailing northwest wind direction, and approximately 10 hours of daily sunshine. The bathing water is not subject to any negative microbiological influences and no pollution episodes are expected to affect water quality.

Coastal Atlantic water body (PTCOST12) in the Ribeiras Costeiras entre Sado e Mira river basin. Moderately exposed mesotidal coast with tidal regime of 3.5 m. Sandy beach approximately 70 to 80 m wide.

Location

Santiago do Cacém municipality. Monitoring point coordinates: Longitude -8.82226°, Latitude 38.05612° (ETRS89 coordinate system).

Season

14 June to 14 September 2025. Monitoring frequency is monthly.

Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei nº 135/09 as amended by Decreto-Lei nº 113/2012. The bathing water is not subject to any negative microbiological influences. No pollution episodes are expected. No days of bathing advisories or prohibitions due to short-term pollution were recorded in the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution classified as unlikely or low risk. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation are all unlikely. No alert system is implemented due to low pollution risk based on historical water quality data.
