Plage Est du Port is a fine sand beach located in Frontignan La Peyrade in the Hérault department of France, situated adjacent to a pleasure port. The beach extends 400 metres and has a width of approximately 80 metres with a gentle slope. Waters remain clear for most of the year. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag award for 17 consecutive years.

Water

Mediterranean Sea beach. Zone extends 400 metres bounded by the port channel dike and the fourth coastal protection barrier. Beach width approximately 80 metres. Low gradient slope. Water depth at offshore: 10–20 metres near beach, 20–50 metres further out, 50–200 metres at greater distance.

Location

Frontignan La Peyrade, Hérault department, France. The beach is located in the southwestern part of the town's 7-kilometre coastline, bordered to the west by the port access channel. Parking information not specified.

Facilities

Lifeguards present. Sanitary facilities available. Beach cleaning performed mechanically once weekly during bathing season for all beaches, twice weekly for the most frequented beaches. Water quality display signage provided.

Season

Bathing season surveillance programme established from start of season. Official monitoring by ARS covers bathing seasons.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Type 1 bathing profile indicating non-averted pollution risk. Quality rated as sufficient, good, or excellent according to directive 2006/7/CE based on four years of sanitary control results from ARS (regional health authority). Monitoring is officially recorded with ARS and subject to a bathing water quality surveillance programme.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include: stormwater discharge collectors, wastewater network overflows, overcrowding and insufficient sanitary facilities, pollution from the sea, canal and lagoon, and bird droppings. Surveillance of industrial discharges and maritime port activities required.
