Coastal water body within the Santo Stefano water body. The area is characterized as a natural rocky zone. The hydrographic basin is Rio Cavo.

Location

Imperia, Liguria region, Province of Imperia, Italy. The competent authority is the Municipality of Imperia (Viale Matteotti 157) and the Port Authority (Via San Lazzaro). The bathing area extends 1.897 square kilometres.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal water treatment plants, sewage treatment systems, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. The primary identified source of pollution is the river mouth.

Risks

The cliff area is partially unstable. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacteria blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded in the past four years.
