Etang des Cygnes is a bathing area within the Parc Résidentiel de Loisirs (residential leisure park) in Garennes-sur-Eure, in the Eure department. The bathing zone measures 20 meters in length and 15 meters in width, with a sandy beach and gentle to steep slopes reaching a maximum depth of 1.90 meters. The water body is fed by the alluvial water table of the Eure River. The site is used for bathing, recreational fishing, and pedalo activities, with maximum capacity of 25 swimmers and an average of about fifteen.

Water

Pond (étang) occupying 6.4 hectares. Average depth of 0.90 meters and maximum depth of 1.90 meters. Sandy bottom with no impact on water transparency. Fed by the alluvial water table of the Eure River. The Eure River has an average discharge of 18.3 cubic meters per second.

Location

Garennes-sur-Eure, Eure department, France. The Parc Résidentiel de Loisirs is situated on the left bank of the Eure River on approximately 50 hectares of land. Access is via a circulation path adjacent to the bathing zone. Parking is available on individual parcels and at the park entrance.

Facilities

Sanitation facilities with semi-collective type purification system. Rescue post located at the park entrance. Drinking water access. Results of water analyses are displayed at the park entrance.

Season

15 May to 15 September, subject to weather conditions.

Water Quality

Water classified as good quality (Class A) for four consecutive years (2008–2011). Microbiological quality has been good for four years, with only one sample (22 June 2011) classified as Class B (medium quality). Cyanobacteria were detected on four occasions: 2 August 2010 (180 cells/ml), 16 August 2010 (18,299 cells/ml), 18 July 2011 (15 cells/ml), and 22 August 2011 (703 cells/ml), all below the 100,000 cells/ml threshold. No bathing prohibitions resulted from these detections.

Risks

Invasive aquatic plant Jussie (Ludwigia grandiflora) present in high density on the bathing zone. Potential risks include fecal pollution, leptospirosis from rodent-borne bacteria, swimmer's dermatitis, cyanobacteria toxins, and amoeba-related infections as identified in European bathing water directives.
