Plage des Govelins is a bathing beach located in the commune of Saint Gildas de Rhuys in the Morbihan department of France. The beach is situated on the Presqu'île de Rhuys peninsula and serves both recreational bathing and shellfish harvesting activities. The beach is subject to tidal influences and ocean conditions typical of the Atlantic coast. Water quality monitoring has been conducted according to European bathing water directives.

Atlantic coastal bathing beach with tidal range. Tidal heights at Crouesty are documented. Wave heights at offshore locations have been calculated by direction from 1973–2000 data.

Water Quality

Water quality has been evaluated according to the 1976 and 2006 EU bathing water directives. Bacteriological quality monitoring shows concentrations of Escherichia coli and enterococci. Classification changes are projected under the 2006 directive. Macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation potential has been assessed.

Risks

Identified pollution sources include wastewater network overflows, treated water discharge from wastewater treatment stations, stormwater network discharges, and diffuse pollution. Macro-algae accumulation has been documented with collection records from 2009–2010. Hydrodynamic modelling has been used to evaluate potential pollution risks to the beach.
