Plage de la Grève Blanche is an official bathing beach located on the western side of the commune of Guilvinec in Brittany, France. The beach faces the Atlantic Ocean and is bordered by a natural coastal fringe on its western section. It serves as one of two official bathing sites in the commune and experiences seasonal population increases during the bathing season.

Water

Atlantic Ocean-facing beach. The watershed basin covers approximately 314 hectares around the beach. The Dour Red stream reaches the beach boundary between Guilvinec and Penmarch communes.

Location

Guilvinec, western part of the commune. The beach is situated downstream of a residential and natural watershed.

Water Quality

Bathing water quality has been monitored under European Directive 2006/7/CE since 2017. Monitoring parameters include intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli. Water quality can be classified as excellent, good, sufficient, or insufficient. Analysis results from 2017 to 2020 are documented. Potential pollution sources include wastewater networks, rainwater networks, and agricultural areas on the watershed.

Risks

Potential macro-algae proliferation and phytoplankton proliferation have been assessed. Contamination risks from wastewater discharge, rainwater networks, and agricultural runoff exist on the watershed.
