Grève Blanche is an open sandy beach located on the Île de Batz in France. The beach is characterized by permeable agricultural soils in the immediate surrounding area, which slows the transfer of pollutants to the coast. The beach experiences dispersal of pollutants aided by southwestern winds, while northwestern and northeastern winds tend to push pollution toward the shore. Heavy rainfall events are rare during the summer bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification under Directive 76/160/CEE: good to average quality from 2005 to 2010. Under the new classification system of Directive 2006/7/CE, classified as excellent quality in 2010. Microbiological monitoring data from 2005 to 2010 for E. coli and enterococci never exceeded thresholds set by AFSSET. No short-term pollution events have been identified.

Risks

Identified pollution sources include non-collective sanitation installations (ANC), birds, horses, and macrodebris. Nutrient inputs from agricultural soil drainage also pose a risk. Flooding risk is low during the summer bathing season.
