Grienericksee Rheinsberg

Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Grienericksee is the main bathing lake of Rheinsberg in northern Brandenburg. It was formed approximately 12,000 years ago during the Weichselian Ice Age and is the lowest lake in the Rheinsberg Lake Chain. The 87-hectare lake consists of a larger northern basin with a maximum depth of 14.1 metres and a smaller, shallower southern basin. During summer, stable temperature layering develops. The western shore is predominantly forested while the eastern shore is part of the town of Rheinsberg with numerous boat houses and jetties. Water quality has shown continuous improvement over the past two decades.
