Großer Treppelsee is a lake approximately 71 hectares in size located 12 km south of Müllrose in the Schlaubetal Nature Park. The lake is divided into three basins with depths ranging from 2 to 5.6 meters. It is fed by the Schlaube river from the south and the Planfließ stream from the east. The lake is surrounded entirely by forest and serves as a popular fishing destination and recreational bathing site.

Water

Großer Treppelsee is a natural freshwater lake with a surface area of 71.36 hectares. The lake comprises three basins with a mean depth of 2.3 meters and maximum depth of 5.6 meters. Water transparency averages 0.8 meters. Water temperature ranges from 9.5°C to 27.9°C. The lake has a water exchange time of 0.3 years. The catchment area is approximately 6 square kilometers, with 73% forest cover and 21% arable land.

Location

The bathing site is located at Bremsdorf, Zeltplatz on the southern east shore of Großer Treppelsee, approximately 12 km south of Müllrose. The site is situated within the Schlaubetal Nature Park in the municipality of Schlaubetal, Oder-Spree district. A campground is located at the bathing site.

Water Quality

Ecological status class is unsatisfactory (ÖZK 4). The lake is eutrophic in nutrient content. One exceedance of the E. coli parameter was recorded in 2016. Four-weekly monitoring is conducted by the health authority.

Risks

Occasional cyanobacterial blooms are observed during the bathing season. The risk of future mass development of cyanobacteria is low to moderate. Sensitive individuals should avoid bathing during algal bloom events. The presence of macroalgae and water plants is noted.
