Haussee is a 36.8-hectare natural lake in the hinterland of the Mecklenburg Lake District, part of the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park. Formed during the last ice age, it is connected to several other lakes and serves as part of the Woblitz waterway system. The lake is shallow, reaching a maximum depth of 4 metres, and is predominantly used for leisure water sports, pleasure steamboats, and recreational canoeing. The Haussee is very nutrient-rich and typically shows water transparency of less than one metre during summer months.

Water

Natural lake with a surface area of 36.8 hectares. Maximum depth of 4 metres. The lake is unstructured and receives inflow from the Woblitz river from the east and discharges westward through a regulated sluice gate. Water temperature ranges from 10.2°C to 26.4°C (mean 21°C). pH ranges from 7.8 to 8.8 (mean 8.4). Water transparency ranges from 0.5 to 1.2 metres (mean 1 metre).

Location

Fürstenberg, in the locality of Himmelpfort-Pian, in the Oberhavel district of Brandenburg, Germany. The bathing area is located on the eastern shore where motorboat hire is available.

Season

Monitoring occurs every four weeks according to Brandenburg Bathing Water Regulations.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (ausgezeichnet) for all monitoring periods from 2016–2019 through 2021–2024. Microbiological parameters show no single-value exceedances of E. coli or intestinal enterococci. E. coli 95-percentile values range from 39–45 per 100 ml. Intestinal enterococci 95-percentile values range from 15–32 per 100 ml. The lake is classified as polytroph (very nutrient-rich) according to LAWA assessment.

Risks

Short-term microbiological pollution expected 1–2 times per season, with maximum duration of 72 hours, caused by recreational boating and a boat dock in the bathing area. Macroalgae and aquatic plants are present. No cyanobacteria blooms have been observed. No risk of cercarial dermatitis. No future danger of cyanobacteria mass development or phytoplankton mass development.
