Moderfitzsee is a lake on the southern edge of the Mecklenburg Lake District in the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park. It has a surface area of 56 hectares with a maximum depth of 10 metres and an island with alder trees in its centre. The lake receives inflow from Sidowsee and drains southeast into Haussee. It was formed during the last ice age by glacial activity.

Water

Natural lake with surface area of 55.88 hectares, maximum depth of 10 metres, mean depth of 5.2 metres. Water exchange time: 4.4 years. Water temperature range 11.1–27.3 °C (mean 20 °C). Water transparency: 0.3–0.7 metres (mean 0.5 metres). pH range 7.6–8.7 (mean 8.4). Fresh water (salinity <0.5‰).

Location

Near Himmelpfort in Fürstenberg, Oberhavel district, Brandenburg. The bathing area is located at the southwestern shore near the locality of Himmelpfort. Beach length: 15 metres. Coordinates: Rechtswert 3381513, Hochwert 5894063.

Season

Monitoring conducted year-round, with regular sampling every four weeks by the health authority.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for 2016–2019, 2017–2020, 2018–2021, 2019–2022, 2020–2023, and 2021–2024. Escherichia coli (95-percentile): 32–39 per 100 ml. Intestinal enterococci (95-percentile): 30–42 per 100 ml. Ecological status class: poor (ÖZK 5). Eutrophic water with strong signs of nutrient pollution. No exceedances of microbiological parameters recorded. No cyanobacterial blooms observed during bathing season.

Risks

Macroalga and macrophyte growth present. Low water transparency with periodic algal blooms. Strong oxygen supersaturation in surface water with severe deficits in deep water. Risk of future phytoplankton mass development cannot be determined. No risk of cyanobacterial mass development. No risk of swimmer's itch from cercariae.
