Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Heimstettener See is a recreational lake located in the area of three municipalities: Kirchheim, Aschheim, and Feldkirchen. The lake was formed in 1937–1938 through gravel extraction by the German Reich Railways. The recreation area covers 236,000 m², with 110,000 m² of water surface and 69,000 m² of meadow for sunbathing. The lake is fed by groundwater sources and has no outflow.

Water

Freshwater lake with water surface of 110,000 m². Average water depth approximately 5 metres with significant fluctuation. Shoreline length approximately 1,600 metres. Fed by groundwater sources with no outflow.

Location

Seestraße 40, 85609 Aschheim. Parking available: 800 spaces on the north side (10 for disabled visitors) and 300 spaces on the south side. Parking fee from 1 May to 30 September: €2.50 per car, €1.50 per motorcycle.

Facilities

Gastronomy with beer garden and accessible toilets, kiosk on south side, water rescue station with boathouse, toilet facilities on north and south sides (north side toilet includes disabled access), grilling area (small family grills only), bathing island, football pitch on north side, playground on north side, table tennis tables on north side and near beer garden.

Season

Monitoring conducted from May to September. Parking fees apply from 1 May to 30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on measurements from 2021–2024. All monitored samples (May to September 2025) rated as bacteriologically unobjectionable. Escherichia coli levels ranged from <10 to 32 KBE/100 ml. Enterococci levels ranged from <10 to 53 KBE/100 ml. Risks include parasitic infection (cercariae) causing itching dermatitis and potential cyanobacteria proliferation under certain conditions.

Risks

Parasitic dermatitis caused by cercariae parasites may occur. Cyanobacteria blooms possible under certain conditions, with potential health risks from toxins at elevated concentrations.
