Herault-Moulin De Brunan

France River 1 - Excellent

Plage du Moulin de Brunan is a natural rocky beach located in the Hérault gorges, more than one kilometre downstream from the commune of Saint Guilhem Le Désert in the Hérault department. The beach has a gentle slope with water depth varying between 80 centimetres and 1 metre, extending approximately 50 metres. The bathing zone is entirely natural with no artificial structures. Average daily attendance during the 2021 bathing season was around fifty swimmers.

River Hérault. Natural rocky beach. Gentle slope with depth varying between 0.8 metres and 1 metre. Bathing zone extends approximately 50 metres. The site is located in a Mediterranean climate zone.

Location

Saint Guilhem Le Désert, Hérault department, France. Located over one kilometre downstream from the commune in the Hérault gorges. Access via departmental road D4 and the Saint James Way pedestrian path. Parking available at an unimproved lot opposite the beach and along road D4 at 150 metres distance.

Facilities

No sanitary facilities on the beach. Water quality information is available at the town hall and on information boards at both bathing zones. A summary panel of ARS measurements is displayed by the municipal police at the roadside at the start of paths leading to the Hérault. The beach is authorised for bathing but unsupervised with no lifeguard post. Dogs are not prohibited from accessing the bathing zone.

Season

The 2021 bathing season ran from late May to late September.

Water Quality

The bathing water was classified as "excellent" until August 2020, when pollution occurred. Following this pollution, the classification changed to "sufficient". The site is officially declared and subject to a monitoring programme for bathing water quality conducted by the ARS.

Risks

Pollution incident occurred in August 2020 affecting water quality.
