Plage de Robinsons is a sandy beach with pebbles located in Rognac on Étang de Berre, a coastal lagoon in southern France. The beach is 679 metres long with an average width of 5 metres, oriented east-southeast. It is bordered by a pine forest with a road and some residential buildings behind it. The beach sits in a small cove which may cause water confinement during pollution events.

Water Quality

2024 classification: Excellent. 2021: Good; 2022: Excellent; 2023: Excellent. Water quality monitoring based on intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli (CFU/100ml). Regulatory thresholds for coastal and transitional waters: Excellent quality (enterococci 100 CFU/100ml, E. coli 250 CFU/100ml at 95th percentile); Good quality (enterococci 200, E. coli 500); Sufficient quality (enterococci 185, E. coli 500 at 90th percentile).

Risks

Nine storm episodes have been monitored since 2012 across Étang de Berre beaches. Three beaches show increased sensitivity to storm pollution: Champigny, Marettes, and Romaniquette. Plage de Robinsons was not identified among the sensitive beaches. Storm episodes can cause bacterial contamination; 24 hours after a storm, bacterial values are compliant. Beach closure for 24 hours is recommended after storms or significant rainfall (10mm/24h). Multiple wastewater treatment stations in the watershed can be contamination sources during dysfunction or severe storm events.
