Coastal bathing area on the Atlantic Ocean. The site includes both the main bathing beach and a foreshore zone (Rocher de Joalland) used for foot fishing.

Location

La Plaine sur Mer, Loire-Atlantique, France, within the Pornic inter-municipal community.

Water Quality

Water quality is assessed using microbiological parameters: E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Until 2012, classification followed the 1975 directive thresholds. From 2013 onwards, classification will use 2006 directive thresholds with four categories: excellent, good, sufficient, and insufficient quality. The profile identifies potential pollution sources requiring assessment and management.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include wastewater network discharges, stormwater runoff, the treated water discharge from La Princetière wastewater treatment station, and surcharges from wastewater pumping stations. Risks related to macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation are assessed. Hydrodynamic modelling was conducted to evaluate the potential risk of beach pollution.
