Port-Giraud beach is located in La Plaine sur Mer within the Loire-Atlantique département in the Pornic municipalities community. The beach profile vulnerability report was compiled in December 2010 to assess water quality and pollution risks. The assessment examined bacteriological water quality, macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation potential, and identified sources of potential pollution affecting the bathing area.

La Plaine sur Mer, Loire-Atlantique, France. Located within the Pornic municipalities community.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to European Directive 1976 standards based on two microbiological parameters: E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Classification uses guide values and mandatory limits. Until 2012, quality was classified into four categories (A, B, C, D). From 2013, classification changed to four levels: excellent quality, good quality, sufficient quality, and insufficient quality. The beach underwent bacteriological quality assessment and monitoring of macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation potential.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified from wastewater networks, treatment plants, stream discharges, storm overflows, and diffuse pollution sources. Hydrodynamic modeling was conducted to evaluate potential pollution risk to the beach.
