Kamenný Rybník

Czechia River 1 - Excellent

Kamenný rybník is a forest pond with colder water and a shallow sandy beach approximately 100 metres long. The water is naturally coloured brown-red due to humic substances from peatland areas in the catchment. The beach area is bordered by protected wetland and peatland communities. The pond is minimally flowing with a retention time of approximately one year.

Water

Pond with a surface area of 5.2 hectares at an elevation of 334 metres above sea level. Catchment area is 2.95 square kilometres. Flow rate Q = 0.005 cubic metres per second with specific runoff q = 1.76 litres per second per square kilometre. The pond is fed by water from adjacent peatland areas with partial subsurface inflow and has a retention time of approximately one year.

Location

Located in the Pilsen region. The bathing area has basic facilities including a restaurant and chemical toilets. Visitor numbers are below 500 per season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent quality for the period 2021–2024. Total phosphorus content ranges between 0.011–0.025 mg/l, meeting the requirements of Government Regulation No. 401/2015. No hygienically risky cyanobacteria detected. Phytoplankton composition shows high interannual variability with a maximum chlorophyll-a measurement of 20.5 micrograms per litre in 2020–2024. Water quality is traditionally very good with naturally high humic substance content and near-neutral pH. Assessment: Compliant status.

Risks

Short-term microbial contamination possible following heavy rainfall with duration of approximately one day, potentially accompanied by visible contamination from pine needles and cones. Diffuse pollution sources near the northwestern part of the shore from these plant materials present low risk. No point sources of pollution identified.
