Klostersee Trennfeld is a bathing water body created between 1972 and 1975 through gravel extraction. The lake has a water surface area of approximately 76,000 square meters, a shoreline length of approximately 1,700 metres, and a maximum water depth of 5 metres. The bathing water quality receives an excellent classification as of 2024 following comprehensive water quality improvement measures implemented between 2021 and 2023.

Klostersee in the Main-Spessart district, Bavaria, Germany.

Season

Official monitoring season runs from 15 May to 15 September, with water quality checks conducted every 4 weeks or more frequently as needed.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent (2024). The 2025 season monitoring shows all samples rated without objection. Enterococcus levels ranged from below 10 to 247 per 100 ml. Escherichia coli levels ranged from below 10 to 76 per 100 ml. Water temperatures during the 2025 season ranged from 19.2°C to 26.8°C.

Risks

A bathing ban is issued if fecal contamination is detected posing a health risk, if Escherichia coli exceeds 1,800 colony-forming units per 100 ml or Intestinal Enterococcus exceeds 700 colony-forming units per 100 ml in confirmed testing, or if algae concentrations pose a health risk to swimmers.
