Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Körbaer See is a small artificial lake situated approximately 8 km south of Dahme/Mark, formed centuries ago when Carmelite monks dammed the Schweinitzer Fließ stream. The lake has an elongated oval shape with a surface area of 19.5 hectares and a maximum depth of 3.6 metres. It has developed into a popular local recreation centre and lies within an FFH protected area. The Flämingskate, a 200 km skating route, runs directly past the lake.

Water

Artificial lake with surface area of 19.5 hectares. Maximum depth 3.6 metres, mean depth 2.9 metres. Water level fluctuations of 0.8 metres occur depending on rainfall. Water transparency at the bathing site ranges from 0.5 to 2 metres. pH values range from 7.2 to 8.86 (mean 8.11). Water temperatures range from 13°C to 27°C (mean 22.3°C). Freshwater lake with salinity below 0.5‰.

Location

Approximately 8 km south of Dahme/Mark, in the transition zone between the Lausitzer Grenzwall and the Fläming region. The bathing area is located in the northwestern section near a bungalow settlement.

Season

Monitored by the Health Authority of Teltow-Fläming district with sampling conducted every four weeks.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all monitoring periods 2016–2024. Escherichia coli 95-percentile values: 15–24 per 100 ml. Intestinal enterococci 95-percentile values: 19–20 per 100 ml. No individual parameter exceedances observed. No cyanobacteria blooms detected during bathing season. No future risk of cyanobacteria mass development identified.

Risks

Macrophytes and macroalgae present with medium risk of future mass development of phytoplankton. Water level can drop significantly during summer months depending on rainfall; the bathing site was closed in 2020 due to low water levels and siltation in the shore area. Artificial water supply from treatment plant has been implemented since 2020.
