Džbán is a bathing reservoir located at an elevation of 300 metres above sea level with a surface area of 16 hectares. The reservoir is relatively shallow with a maximum depth of 8.5 metres at the dam and an average water retention time of approximately 50–60 days. The bathing area features a grass and sand beach approximately 500 metres long with sandy and gravel bottom. The site experiences irregular and intense cyanobacteria blooms and is classified as highly eutrophic to hypertrophic.

Water Quality

Water quality classification cannot be determined due to insufficient microbiological data. Total phosphorus concentrations measured in 2023 ranged from 0.081–0.23 mg/litre, indicating very high levels. Phytoplankton biomass regularly exceeds the 50 µg/litre chlorophyll-a limit, with seasonal maxima exceeding 100 µg/litre. Cyanobacteria presence between 2019–2023 varied from 15,800 cells per millilitre to 450,000 cells per millilitre. Water transparency ranges from 0.3–1.2 metres during the bathing season, frequently falling below the 1-metre limit. Hygiene authority assessments over the last five years have ranged from favourable (2020 and 2023, grade 2) to unfavourable (2022 four times and 2021 twice at grade 5, indicating water dangerous for bathing; 2019 twice at grade 4, indicating water unsuitable for bathing).
