Water Quality

Water quality classification assessed under European directives 76/106/CEE and 2006/7/CE using bacterial counts (UFC/100mL). Historical water quality records available for bathing seasons 2006 to 2011. Assessment includes evaluation of robustness of beach classification and potential for phytoplankton and macroalgae proliferation.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified including failures in pumping stations, stormwater discharge outlets, discharges from pleasure boats, presence of animals on the beach, and diffuse agricultural pollution. Risk assessment completed for the bathing zone with recommendations for preventive and long-term management measures.
