Plage de La Braie is an extensive beach located in the northern part of the commune of Notre-Dame de Monts in the Vendée department. The beach extends approximately 2,300 meters and comprises four connected beach sections: Plage de La Parée Grollier, Plage du Bois Soret, Plage de La Renaudière, and Plage de La Braie itself. The area is characterized by sandy dunes and clay formations overlying Pont d'Yeu limestone bedrock. The region experiences an oceanic climate with cool, humid winters and mild summers.

Water

Coastal Atlantic beach. The beach extends approximately 2,300 meters in length. The beach presents an average slope of approximately 2% on the foreshore zone and 3 to 4% on the upper beach zone. The dune ridge reaches widths of up to 700 meters and altitudes of 15 meters at the northern sections.

Location

Northern commune of Notre-Dame de Monts, Vendée, France. The beach extends from the municipal campground to the south to the commune of La Barre de Monts to the north, along the Chemin de La Parée Garnier.

Season

Public information measures began in 2012. Classification based on 2006 Directive thresholds implemented from 2013 onwards, using data from the preceding four years of analysis.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted according to EU Directive 2006/7/CE. Bacteriological analysis focuses on E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Classification system uses four levels: insufficient, sufficient, good, and excellent. Shellfish bacteriological quality also monitored. Potential for macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation assessed.

Potential pollution sources identified from wastewater treatment systems and stormwater drainage. Animal presence on beach noted as potential risk factor. Potential for macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation.
