Grande Plage is an extensive beach located in the south of the commune of Notre-Dame de Monts in the Vendée department, France. The beach extends approximately 2,200 metres and comprises four sections: Plage des Régates, Plage Centrale, Plage du Murier, and Plage du Pont d'Yeu, stretching from the municipal campsite in the north to the Pont d'Yeu in the south. The beach features a mean slope of approximately 2% on the intertidal zone and 3-4% on the upper beach area. The area is characterized by an oceanic climate with cool, humid winters and mild summers, with moderate temperatures influenced by ocean presence.

Water

Sandy beach with an intertidal zone and upper beach area. The beach extends approximately 2,200 metres in length. The beach slope averages 2% on the intertidal zone and 3-4% on the upper beach area. The dune barrier reaches widths of up to 700 metres at Pont d'Yeu and approximately 2 kilometres at La Barre de Monts, with maximum altitude of 15 metres. The coastal formations comprise sandy dunes and clays reaching depths of several tens of metres. Ocean tides in the area have a maximum range of 5.57 metres.

Situated in the south of the commune of Notre-Dame de Monts, Vendée, France. The beach extends from the municipal campsite to the north to the Pont d'Yeu to the south.

Season

Monitoring surveillance operates according to European Directive 2006/7/CE thresholds from 2013 onwards, based on analysis conducted over the preceding four years.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring conducted according to European Directive 2006/7/CE parameters: E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Classification based on four levels introduced in 2013: insufficient, sufficient, good, and excellent. Potential pollution sources identified include wastewater system outlets, stormwater discharge systems, and beach frequentation. Bacteriological quality of shellfish also monitored. Potential for proliferation of macroalgae and phytoplankton assessed.
