Capbreton is a coastal municipality in the Landes department of Aquitaine with seven monitored bathing beaches open to swimming in summer. The town functions as both a pleasure port and seaside resort, with a permanent population of 8,500 that increases tenfold during tourist season. The beaches are Océanide, La Piste, Préventorium and Savane, Notre Dame, Centrale, and are distributed north and south of Capbreton port. These sandy beaches experience houle (swell) from Atlantic depressions, particularly in autumn and winter, creating powerful waves. The climate is temperate oceanic with mild winters and relatively cool summers.
