Lachea sud is a bathing water area located in Acicastello, Sicily. The beach features a steep lava rock shoreline with a narrow sandy area of a few metres in width. The site is situated in a marine protected area and experiences short-duration pollution events related to port operations.

Acicastello, Catania province, Sicily. The bathing area is near the old port of Acitrezza. Coordinates: 15.16619°E 37.56226°N to 15.16659°E 37.56077°N.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Water quality is monitored at coordinates 15.16745°E 37.56141°N. Short-duration pollution events have been recorded on 11 August 2016 and 12 October 2016.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events occur due to transport of sewage from currents. The old port of Acitrezza discharges effluent near the bathing area. Wastewater transport by currents is a documented cause of short-term contamination.
