Lake Sauris is an artificial lake surrounded by meadows and forests located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The bathing area at Localita La Maina features a sandy shoreline with lakeside vegetation. The lake is classified as excellent quality for bathing and has been consistently monitored since 2010.

Location

Sauris municipality, Udine Province, Friuli Venezia Giulia region, Italy. Coordinates: 46.450343°N, 12.720842°E. The bathing area extends approximately 4.767 km along the shoreline.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia coli: 90th percentile 25 CFU/100ml, 95th percentile 40 CFU/100ml. Intestinal enterococci: 90th percentile 35 CFU/100ml, 95th percentile 61 CFU/100ml. No variation in water quality was observed during the 2015–2018 bathing seasons. Wastewater treatment discharges from Sauris di Sotto purification plant and smaller treatment facilities at Klemele and Unterveit enter the lake via tributaries.

Risks

No short-duration pollution events were recorded between 2015 and 2018. No sustained eutrophic phenomena driven by cyanobacteria have ever been reported. No toxic algal blooms or elevated concentrations of potentially toxic species have been detected.
