Water Quality

Classified as Excellent for 2015–2018 (D.Lgs 116/08). Downgraded to Good in 2018 due to increased faecal contamination indicators, then reclassified as Excellent in 2019. Escherichia Coli (90th percentile) 236 CFU/100 ml, (95th percentile) 380 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile) 66 CFU/100 ml, (95th percentile) 116 CFU/100 ml. Small municipal wastewater treatment plants upstream (Tramonti di Sopra, Tramonti di Mezzo, Tramonti di Sotto, Chievolis) with capacity below 2000 population equivalents. No cyanobacterial or toxic algal blooms detected.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events possible during unfavourable weather conditions including intense rainfall and drought periods. Redona Dam upstream can occasionally cause variations in water flow and quality. Potential domestic discharges from two small mountain villages (Faidona and Campone) without wastewater treatment may influence water quality.
