Lakolk Strand and Sønderstrand are bathing areas on the west coast of Rømø island facing the North Sea. The beaches feature broad sandy shores with fine sand and are between 500 and 1800 meters wide. The bathing water profile extends approximately 10 km along the coast. Water depth varies considerably due to large tidal differences, with shallow water extending far offshore and reaching approximately 2 meters depth 300–500 meters out. The water is salt and free from algae.
