Lampėdis is an artificial water body created from a former quarry located in Kaunas, Lithuania. The bathing area spans approximately 700 meters and 300 meters in length along the southern shore, featuring sandy and fine gravel beaches. The site has maintained excellent water quality since 2008, consistently meeting EU requirements for perfect water conditions. The area is surrounded by forest and recreational facilities, including a regional campground opened in 2010 with amenities such as showers, toilets, changing rooms, and a café.

Water

An artificial lake created from a former quarry, approximately 3 kilometers in length and 300 meters wide, surrounded by 1-2 meter high embankments. The basin receives an average annual precipitation of 551 millimeters, with peak rainfall in October and minimum in September. Average annual discharge from the basin is 18.1 cubic meters per second, with highest flow in February and lowest in September.

Location

The bathing site is located in Kaunas city district, Lithuania, on the Lampėdis water body. The northern shore is home to Kaunas Camp Inn campground, which provides visitor facilities. The site is accessible by bicycle via a dedicated bike path connecting to Šilaininiu and the city center. Coordinates: 54.9117°N, 23.8273°E.

Facilities

Biotechnical toilets (two units plus one stationary facility at the campground), showers, changing rooms, recreational equipment rental, medical point, café, sauna, beach volleyball court, outdoor tennis court, basketball court, outdoor fitness equipment, children's playground, waste bins (six units with 0.03 cubic meter capacity each plus one 1.1 cubic meter container for mixed waste), and bicycle path.

Water Quality

Water quality classification has been excellent since 2008 through 2024, consistently meeting perfect water quality requirements under EU Directive 2006/7/EB. The water body has good ecological status and meets good ecological potential requirements. General phosphorus concentration complies with good ecological status requirements, and chemical status is good. No harmful algal blooms or macroalgae contamination have been reported.
