Lanséria is a bathing beach located in Mesquer, a coastal commune in Loire-Atlantique, France. The beach is situated on a rugged coastline with bays and coves popular with swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. The area experiences strong summer bathing activity and is characterised by a shallow water environment typical of Atlantic coastal beaches.

Coastal Atlantic beach with tidal influence. The beach is part of a rocky coastline with multiple bays and inlets. The water environment is influenced by oceanic and meteorological conditions characteristic of the Atlantic coast.

Location

Mesquer is located in the Pays de la Loire region, Loire-Atlantique department, within the Cap Atlantique intercommunal area. The commune is situated between the Loire and Vilaine rivers.

Season

Official opening period: 15 June to 15 September. Monitoring period: 1 July to 31 August. Monitoring hours: 12:00 to 19:00.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2004–2010 monitoring period). Under Directive 76/160/CEE, the site received a 10A classification for years 2007–2010. Under Directive 2006/7/CE, classifications were Excellent for all four-year periods from 2004–2010. Pollution episodes occurred on 06/08/2004, 24/08/2006 (attributed to rain), and 20/08/2009, all bacteriological in nature. Primary pollution sources identified: non-compliant wastewater treatment systems (100 m from beach, weak to moderate impact) and malfunctioning pump station with overflow (40 m from beach, moderate impact).

Risks

Non-compliant wastewater treatment systems and malfunctioning pump station with overflow discharge. Risk of macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation was assessed.
