Chassenon beach is a freshwater bathing site located on the Vendée river basin, situated approximately 27 km upstream from the source of the Vendée in the immediate upstream area of the Mervent hydraulic complex under the influence of the Albert reservoir. The beach underwent significant renovation works between 2012 and 2013, including the creation of a green beach, parking redesign, reconstruction of the reception building, beach expansion, installation of pebbles, and renovation of pontoons. The site is managed by the Communauté de Communes Vendée Sèvre Autise since 2012.

Water

Freshwater lake. The Vendée is an affluent of the Sèvre Niortaise with a total catchment area of 675 km². The beach is located under the influence of the Albert reservoir within the Mervent hydraulic complex.

Location

The bathing zone is situated on the Vendée watercourse basin. The beach is located approximately 27 km upstream from the source of the Vendée, in the immediate upstream area of the Mervent hydraulic complex.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring is conducted by the Agence Régionale de Santé (ARS). Analyses of algae and phytoplankton were performed between 2014 and 2015. Potential bacterial pollution sources have been identified and assessed, including collective sanitation systems, non-collective sanitation, stormwater drainage networks, diffuse pollution sources, and the Vendée watercourse itself.

Risk of bacterial contamination identified from collective and non-collective sanitation systems, stormwater networks, diffuse pollution sources, and the Vendée watercourse. Risk of cyanobacteria development identified as a concern.
