The Prieuré Saint-Martin pond beach in Verruyes is a freshwater bathing area located in the Deux-Sèvres department, part of the Touche Poupard retention basin watershed. Monitoring of the beach has been conducted since 1975. The beach is classified as a type 2 vulnerability profile for bathing waters.

Location

Verruyes commune, Deux-Sèvres department. The bathing zone is situated on the Prieuré Saint-Martin pond (Étang du Prieuré St-Martin).

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring by ARS (health authority) between 2005 and 2010 is documented. Bacteriological quality and cyanobacteria concentrations are tracked. Nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations are monitored at the sampling station. The profile establishes baseline water quality data for classification under EU Directive 2006/7/CE.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include agricultural pressure, collective sanitation systems, non-collective sanitation, stormwater networks, and point or accidental sources. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is evaluated. Nitrogen and phosphorus nutrient loads from the watershed pose contamination risks.
