La Tranche-sur-Mer is a coastal commune on the southern Vendée littoral approximately 45 km from Les Sables d'Olonne. The commune covers 17.63 km² with a year-round population of 2,540 inhabitants but receives an estimated 100,000 visitors during the summer season. The 13 km coastline is designated as a bathing water zone and supports diverse water-based activities including swimming, water sports, shellfish farming, and recreational foot fishing.
