Le Tréport and Mers Les Bains are two monitored bathing beaches in Normandy, France. Le Tréport beach extends 850 meters in length with 60 meters width and comprises pebbles overlaying sand visible at low tide. Mers Les Bains beach is 950 meters long with 35 meters width. Both beaches are monitored daily during summer months and serve as popular recreational areas with various water sports activities.

Water

Coastal bathing areas with pebble and sand composition. Le Tréport beach has 850 meters length and 60 meters width with a foreshore of 300 meters. Mers Les Bains beach has 950 meters length and 35 meters width with a foreshore of 300 meters. Both have immediate watershed area of 8.6 square kilometers.

Location

Le Tréport is located at latitude 50°3'46.60"N, longitude 1°21'59.36"E. Mers Les Bains is located at latitude 50°4'1.51"N, longitude 1°22'55.46"E. Both are situated in Normandy with permanent populations of approximately 7,850 and summer populations reaching 13,829.

Facilities

Le Tréport: supervised bathing 10:00 to 19:00 from 1 July to 31 August, approximately 20 beach cabins, animals prohibited during summer season. Mers Les Bains: supervised bathing 11:00 to 19:00 from 1 July to 31 August, 300 beach cabins available, animals permitted, two distinct activity zones with 30-meter buffer zone separating bathing from water sports areas.

Season

1 July to 31 August. Le Tréport monitored 10:00 to 19:00. Mers Les Bains monitored 11:00 to 19:00. Water quality monitoring conducted June to September annually.

Water Quality

Le Tréport: classified as sufficient in 2015, good in 2016, excellent in 2017 and 2018. Water quality has improved since 2010. Mers Les Bains: classified as good in 2015 and 2017, sufficient in 2016, and insufficient in 2018. Quality monitoring based on enterococci and Escherichia coli levels conducted annually from June to September.

Risks

Bacterial contamination from Escherichia coli and streptocoques identified. Mers Les Bains experienced elevated contamination levels in 2018. Pollution sources include wastewater treatment plants, stormwater networks, agricultural activities, and classified installations within the watershed.
