Le Tréport is a 850-metre-long beach composed of pebbles resting on sand, with supervised bathing from 1 July to 31 August, 10:00 to 19:00. Mers Les Bains is a 950-metre-long beach with supervised bathing from 1 July to 31 August, 11:00 to 19:00, featuring two distinct activity zones separated by a 30-metre buffer band. Both beaches are located on the coast of Normandy and serve as bathing water monitoring sites under the European Water Quality Directive.

Water

Two coastal beaches. Le Tréport beach is 850 metres long and 60 metres wide with an intertidal zone of 300 metres. Mers Les Bains beach is 950 metres long and 35 metres wide with an intertidal zone of 300 metres. Both sites are situated on the English Channel coast.

Location

Le Tréport: latitude 50°3'46.60"N, longitude 1°21'59.36"E. Mers Les Bains: latitude 50°4'1.51"N, longitude 1°22'55.46"E. Both locations are in the Normandy region of northern France.

Facilities

Le Tréport: approximately 20 changing cabins. Mers Les Bains: 300 changing cabins. Both beaches have lifeguard supervision during the bathing season. Animals prohibited at Le Tréport during summer; animals permitted at Mers Les Bains.

Season

Supervised bathing: 1 July to 31 August. Le Tréport 10:00 to 19:00; Mers Les Bains 11:00 to 19:00. Water quality monitoring conducted annually June to September.

Water Quality

Le Tréport water quality classification: sufficient in 2015, good in 2016, excellent in 2017 and 2018. Mers Les Bains water quality classification: good in 2015 and 2017, sufficient in 2016, insufficient in 2018. Quality assessment is based on enterococci and Escherichia coli monitoring conducted annually from June to September according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Le Tréport shows improved water quality since 2015 with stable low bacterial levels from 2017 to 2018. Mers Les Bains shows variable quality with spikes in E. coli contamination in 2018.

Risks

Escherichia coli and enterococci contamination documented at both sites with variable levels. Mers Les Bains experienced significant bacterial contamination spikes in 2018. Runoff, livestock access to watercourses, and wastewater discharge identified as pollution sources affecting water quality.
