Water

Coastal marine water body subject to oceanic and tidal influences. The zone experiences Atlantic tidal patterns and wind-driven currents characteristic of the Breton coast.

Location

Locmaria, Morbihan (56), Brittany, France. The bathing zone is delimited within the Grands Sables beach area.

Facilities

Beach surveillance systems are in place. Equipment and facilities are present on the beach and in nearby areas.

Water Quality

The bathing water quality has been assessed under EU Directive 2006/7/CE. Historical water quality data have been reviewed and the robustness of the bathing zone classification has been evaluated. The potential for phytoplankton and macroalgae proliferation has been assessed.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include wastewater discharge systems, non-compliant autonomous sanitation installations, agricultural runoff, unmonitored boat moorings, animals on the beach, and bather-related inputs. Rainwater discharge outlets contribute bacterial loads to the bathing water.
