Port An Dro is a bathing beach located in the commune of Locmaria in the Morbihan department. The beach is situated in a coastal area with significant seasonal tourism. Coastal marine water body. The area is influenced by tidal currents and Atlantic Ocean conditions. Tidal range and currents are calculated for the Belle-Île-en-Mer offshore area.

Location

Locmaria, Morbihan department (56), Brittany region, France. The beach has a parking area with signage and information panels.

Water Quality

Water quality has been monitored from 2010 to 2016 by the regional health authority (ARS). A 2016 analysis and REMI monitoring programme tracked algal proliferation and water quality parameters. The beach is subject to potential pollution from multiple sources including collective and non-collective wastewater systems, agricultural runoff, and boat moorings.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include: wastewater discharge outlets, failures at pumping stations, non-compliant individual sanitation systems, agricultural pollution, unregulated boat moorings, presence of animals on the beach, and bather-related pollution. Phytoplankton and macroalgae proliferation potential has been assessed.
