Lido Ponte Tresa

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lido Ponte Tresa is a rocky beach with free access and an adjacent lawn, located on the northwestern shore of Lake Lugano in Lombardia. The beach has a width of 20 metres and is situated a few kilometres from the city of Lavena Ponte Tresa. It features a waterfront promenade for pedestrian access and is classified as having excellent water quality based on monitoring data from 2019–2022.

Water

Lake Lugano, located at 271 metres altitude. The bathing area extends 0.150 km². The lake is part of the Ticino hydrographic basin and falls under the international jurisdiction of the Commission for the Protection of Italo-Swiss Waters (CIPAIS).

Location

Lavena Ponte Tresa, Varese province, Lombardia region, on the northwestern shore of Lake Lugano. Parking is available along the road. Bar, restaurants, residence, and camping facilities are nearby.

Parking along the road, bar, restaurants, residence, camping, small boat moorings, park, cycle-pedestrian path, pontoon. Dogs on leash permitted on waterfront promenade.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference period 2019–2022). No regulatory threshold exceedances have been recorded since 2018. Seasonal algal blooms have been detected. No anthropogenic activities known to promote eutrophication or cyanobacterial growth. No toxic effects on swimmers or aquatic life have been identified.

Risks

Possible pollution from adverse meteorological conditions such as severe weather events, causing land drainage, water stagnation, and spillages of various substances. Potential for accidental or unauthorised discharges of waste or polluting debris. Seasonal algal blooms may occur; if toxic species are present, they belong to cyanobacteria.
