Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Waldsee is an idyllic natural bathing lake fed by moorland water, completely renovated in 2007/2008. The bathing area is unmonitored and free to enter. A walking path encircles the lake with an attached educational trail through high moorland, passing through forest with old tree stands and moorland sections.

Natural moorland lake. Elevation 765.4 m above sea level. Maximum water depth 2.6 m. Water renewal by groundwater inflow or throughflow. Ecological status class 1 (very good), oligotrophic. Visibility depth greater than 5 m.

Toilets, parking, kiosk, lying meadows, designated non-swimmer area, children's playground, beach volleyball field, grass sports field, table tennis tables. No lifeguards.

Classification: Excellent (1) in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 according to EU Bathing Water Directive. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms: low. Risk of macrophyte and filamentous algae growth: low. Pollution from contaminants: low. Bird droppings: low. Cercarial dermatitis: low.

Risks

Potential short-term pollution from flooding and heavy rainfall with consequent entry of contaminants. During flooding, water is discharged via sluice gates.
