A long sandy beach located at the mouth of the Ribeira de Colares, featuring attractive rock formations surrounded by the village of Colares. The beach is accessible by a scenic tram that descends the valley from Sintra.

Sintra municipality. Accessible by tram from Sintra that descends the valley to the beach.

Season

June 12th to September 12th, 2021. Sampling frequency: triweekly.

Water Quality

Water quality classification established under Decreto-Lei 135/09 (June 3rd) as amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012 (May 23rd). The bathing water has a very low contamination risk based on historical water quality records. Zero days of bathing restrictions due to short-term pollution events were recorded during the 2020 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution events with low risk may occur due to excessive river discharge during heavy rainfall, typically lasting 1–2 days. Fecal contamination may originate from the Ribeira de Colares during intense precipitation. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation are all unlikely.
