Marina Romea is a coastal bathing water area located 100 metres north of the Lamone River mouth in Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna. The area extends from 220 metres north of the Lamone mouth to the base of the northern pier at the river mouth. The beach is 130–150 metres wide and bordered by coniferous woodland with campsites and light tourist facilities to the rear, with wetlands characterizing the hinterland. The area is subject to sand replenishment interventions.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2020–2023). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 33; Escherichia coli (95th percentile): 42. Enterococci intestinales (90th percentile): 47; Enterococchi intestinales (95th percentile): 70. No direct discharges or watercourses convey pollutants into the bathing water. During the 2020–2023 bathing seasons, one short-duration pollution episode was recorded in 2023 and two episodes declared as 'anomalous situation' in 2023. An anomalous situation occurred in May–June 2023 due to a regional flooding event on 16–17 May 2023, resulting in microbiological parameter exceedances on 30 May 2023 and 12 June 2023.

Risks

The Lamone River mouth is located immediately south of the bathing area. Intense precipitation can cause the river to convey pollutants into the sea. Eutrophication phenomena are possible due to the proximity of the Lamone River mouth. No sustained eutrophic phenomena from cyanobacteria have been reported in the last four years. No phytoplankton bloom events (Fibrocapsa japonica) or macroalgae blooms have been recorded during 2020–2023. Animal access is regulated by regional and municipal bathing ordinances.
